Principles for a safer space
At Finnish Flute Society events, we commit to the following safer space principles:
We encourage everyone to respect their own boundaries. Encourage everyone to respect their own boundaries. Everyone has the right to their own boundaries and is allowed to express them. Everyone has the right to their own limits and everyone has the right to be themselves. Remember, you can't know someone's boundaries without asking them. Ask for space for yourself if you need it.
We respect each other. Respect others and yourself in your words and actions, and treat each other with positivity and appreciation. We do not ridicule or belittle another's gender, ethnic or socio-economic background, appearance, values or health. We will not tolerate inappropriate behaviour, harassment or discrimination in any form.
Apologise and take notice if you have intentionally or unintentionally offended others. Use better judgement in the future.
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
Do this if you face harassment
All our events have a harassment officer who you can contact if you notice inappropriate behaviour. The harassment officer is Rea Metsähonkala (+358503010414, ).
We have drawn on examples of similar principles from other actors (UN, Culture for All, City of Helsinki, Kamarikesä) to write our safer spaces policy.
