HERBERT LINDHOLM 

Flutist, pedagogue and composer Herbert Lindholm was born in Porvoo 1946. After studying in Sibelius Academy with Juho Alvas he completed the Diploma in Flute Performance in 1972. Besides flute and composing, his studies have included orchestral conducting. As an orchestra musician Herbert has worked as principal flutist in Kuopio Orchestra, and as the principal flute professor at the Kuopio Conservatoire of Music and Dance. In 2006 the Finnish Flute Association named Herbert as an honorary member.

This director musices (2010) wants to offer a bridge between the traditional and most contemporary musical styles. He aims to create music that is idiomatic to the instruments and thus comfortably playable for the musicians. His catalogue has more than 100 titles - most of which are aimed for pedagogical use and especially for flute. The latest titles are from the year 2021! One can well recognize the characteristic free-tonal, melodic language of his. References to different historical eras and ethnic nuances enrich this already versatile library of works.

Herbert Lindholm has affected greatly the Finnish flute pedagogic scene, not just flute teacher students of Kuopio. In addition to the musical works he has written the only Finnish flute book, Flautissimo - the pedagogical flute folder (1985). And when it comes to his works as a composer, Herbert has always shared them so openly with everyone. He has also been a pioneer in the internet flute scene of Finland.
